MUSICIANS IN LA
Musicians in Venice
View on map →Venice's music scene is as eclectic as the neighborhood itself—buskers on the boardwalk, singer-songwriters at beachside cafes, indie rock at dive bars, and occasional warehouse parties near Abbot Kinney. The vibe is laid-back but serious about craft; musicians here often balance music with surf/skate/art projects. It's less industry-focused than Eastside LA, which means more room to experiment and build at your own pace. If you're a solo artist, acoustic performer, or just want to make music without the pressure cooker energy of Silver Lake, Venice offers space to breathe.
Venues
The Brig
Abbot Kinney dive bar with a small stage. Books indie rock, punk, local DJs. Unpretentious crowd, cheap drinks, good energy. Great starter venue.
1515 Abbot Kinney Blvd
Townhouse & Del Monte Speakeasy
Two rooms, one building. Townhouse is the bar; Del Monte is the underground venue space. Indie, electronic, experimental bookings. Weird in the best way.
52 Windward Ave
Venice Beach Boardwalk
Not a traditional venue, but busking here is how many LA artists built their early fanbase. Bring an amp, set up near Muscle Beach, and play. Make actual money on good days while building street credibility.
Studios & Rehearsal Spaces
- United Recording Studios – Historic Ocean Way studio in Hollywood (not Venice proper, but Venice musicians use it). High-end, legendary rooms. Bucket list studio.
- Various home studios – Many Venice musicians have home setups. Ask around at The Brig or local shows for affordable hourly rates.
Local Tips
Parking is a nightmare—meters everywhere, lots are $15-25, residential streets are permit-only. Bike or scooter if possible. Best nights are weekends, but weekday happy hours at The Brig can surprise you. The boardwalk scene is year-round but busiest in summer—if you busk, mornings and late afternoons are prime (avoid midday tourist chaos). The community is chill—show up to other musicians' sets and you'll be welcomed in. Grab coffee at Groundwork or Menotti's. Venice Ale House for late-night food after shows.
